About this event
Given the extreme weather we have experienced in Sarasota County, responsible water resource management is more important than ever. During recent storm seasons neighborhoods have flooded. According to the latest numbers from the U.S. Drought Monitor released Tuesday, Feb. 17th, 67.4% of the state is experiencing extreme drought, including all of Sarasota County. Our water supply is depleted and water usage restrictions are now in effect.
And yet, development continues at a rapid pace, creating even more demand for water while paving over the permeable soils needed to replenish our underground water supply.
On March 20th at Stoneybrook Country Club, the League of Women Voters will host a conversation with Jono Miller and Julie Morris. This husband and wife duo are longtime conservationists and environmental activists who have been researching, promoting and working to protect the waters of Sarasota County for many years. They are well versed in Sarasota County’s water resource management and will share the efforts underway to preserve our most precious resource.
