2024 ELECTION ROUNDUP

A message from our president Shawn Bartelt

The League of Women Voters of Sarasota County is profoundly grateful to everyone who participated in the 2024 General Election. Sarasota County’s 84% record turnout exceeded the state’s 78.8% average.

Thank you to our many volunteers who worked tirelessly this election year to educate and energize voters by;

  •  Registering voters at 38 events throughout the county.
  •  Offering election related programs including 32 Speaker’s Bureau presentations.
  • Hosting candidate forums for School Board, Hospital Board, County Commission, Charter Review Board and North Port City Commission.
  • Ensuring that vote411.org provided information on all local candidates and races.
  • Compiling and distributing digital and printed voter guides despite the disruption of Hurricane Milton.

Regarding advocacy, we took positions on;

Amendment 1 - to oppose partisan school board elections
Amendment 4 - in favor of reproductive freedom
Amendment 6 - to oppose repeal of public campaign financing
1 Mil Referendum - to support excellence in our Sarasota County public schools
