You may have received some correspondence in opposition to the League of Women Voters of Florida Education Fund’s 2014 Nonpartisan Voter Guide. Please know that the League, a 501c3 nonpartisan not-for-profit organization, invited all qualified candidates for the 2014 General Election ballot to submit responses to our online guide (accessible via Vote411.org). At that same time, we notified all candidates that, due to space limitations, their responses would not be included in our printed guide unless they were polling at 10% or more at the time of publication.
We are aware that F.S. 104.31 was cited in the message that you received and have been advised that it is not applicable to this situation; it relates to coercion, not to the making available of educational resources which voters may read and evaluate for themselves.
In our 94 years of existence, the League of Women Voters has never endorsed a political party or candidate, and we stand by our Guide as well as by our criteria for inclusion in the print-version. We believe that our 2014 Nonpartisan Voter Guide is an extremely valuable tool for Florida voters who are looking to make an informed choice on November 4, 2014, and we hope that you will choose to make it available via your office to voters in your community.
Thank you so much for all that you do. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.
President, League of Women Voters of Florida
