QUESTIONS (limit 100 words or less for EACH question)
Do you support county wide election of all county commission seats? Please explain your answer.
No. I believe the government should represent each of the various demographics, not the county as a whole. Having your own representative encourages a feeling of closeness to and personal involvement with your local goverrnment. In addition, it is easier, less expensive and more efficient to campaign in a smaller area. A county-wide election could result in the majority of a district being out-voted by the other districts and denied their representative choice. However, this county has home rule, so it is up to the people to voice their opinions and ultimately make this decision.
Do you support changing the board from elected to appointed? Please explain your answer.
No. The people have a right to vote for their representatives. Appointed board members have no accountability and cannot be removed. Elected board members are accountable for their actions and can be replaced by the people. This election process is the basis of our representative government and should not be replaced, in my opinion.
